Burano (see my last post) is not the only place with brightly-coloured housefronts.
Here are some in Oxford, UK.
Why the colours? The story goes that in years gone by, University dons would spend the summer months working as offshore trawler fishermen. On their return to the mouth of the Thames, they would transfer to skiffs or wherries for the journey upstream to Oxford, where each would be able to identify his own house, from some distance, by the colour.

i colori invernali, burano
Every image has been captured before by everyone who comes to Burano to wander round with a camera, but the desire to frame a shot and press the shutter is irresistible.
[Click on each picture to enlarge it].
The united colours of the much-photographed houses of Burano are just as vibrant in winter as in summer sunshine. Do the residents ever tire of their polychromatic world?
I eventually found myself looking for something more muted....
